From the very beginning (of the end) I contested the cleaning costs from when I moved out of my mediocre pad at Heatherwood Apartments in South Everett. I wasn’t resistant to the charges because I’m cheap, but because I know the difference between clean and dirty. My mom is a neat freak and she raised me to be one as just like her. When it came time to move-out, I was slapped with a fat cleaning bill, and I couldn’t believe it… well, I could, but not because the apartment wasn’t clean.

Sunday, October 5th, 2008I had a great chat with Phil from DevCo, the parent company that owns Heatherwood Apartments. When I tried civilly to ask him about why I was being charged $220 for a cursory cleaning of my apartment, he conceded that no matter what, they have to send in someone to do a final clean and sanitization. But it doesn’t mean anything, does it?
The final scrub on my apartment couldn’t have been more than an hour, and I’ll see them in court or at the gates of hell for them to defend it otherwise. Phil says you get 2-hours of cleaning included automatically, so if it’s 2-hours PLUS $220 to clean a toiled, wipe the fridge and clean the pink around the bathtub drain, the guy has to be earning about $500 per hour, and work very, very slow.

Water & Sewer Charges Beyond Insane
Sunday, September 28th, 2008Before we moved in, we were told in no uncertain terms that the water was included in our rent… mind you, it is, but only in the fact that you pay it straight to management on top of your rent. It’s not included “free”, it’s just included in that you pay it to the front office… that was a bit misleading, and we didn’t find it out until we sat down to sign the lease… but it might be more even than your worst expectations.
