Mill Creek is truly an upscale city, no two ways about it. So if you see a Mill Creek address, there is a certain amount of prestige that is assumed. Heatherwood Apartments loves to brag that it’s within the bounds of Mill Creek, but what they don’t like to mention is that Everett city limits aren’t just nearby, they are in fact the property bounds of Heatherwood.
To say that Heatherwood Apartments is basically in Everett is more than true geographically, it’s true in practice, and if you’re looking for some proof, check out the lackluster attention to repairs at the property, even though they claim it’s more Mill Creek than Everett.
Two important points in case are the bashed in garage doors and the vandalized spray painting so prominent around the property.
The garage doors were kicked in more than a year ago. No one seems to know who did it, and the only tenants who could have heard it were those who live in the “carriage house” apartments above them, but they didn’t notice it happening, even though it happened to almost all of them.
Whatever the reason, the doors were kicked in, and never repaired. I can understand it, a single garage door could cost a few hundred dollars. Even though they take in over $500,000 per month on a property that apparently has no debt, it was a cost too great for them to swallow.
The other point is the spray painting. They’re eager to clean it up in obvious places, but when it comes to backs of buildings, they just let it go.
From when I first moved in, there was already spray-painted tags on the Dumas side of the B building… when I moved out 11-months later, and I did go check it out again after my move-out, the tags are still there. I know other tenants have reported these damages, and I know further that they know about them because I complained of them myself… but nothing. No repairs, no response, no nothing of any kind in terms of response.
These buildings, as pretty as they might look, have vinyl siding, unlike the wood and wood fiber products more common in Mill Creek, so it would only take a pressure washer to remove the graffiti. They don’t have to repaint, they don’t have to replace anything, and all they’d have to do is spray it down with water and watch it wash away… but month after month, apparently year after year, they just don’t care what sort of ghetto the apartment complex looks like. Tenants don’t see it, only the taggers do, and they see complacency, and it motivates them to keep up the vandalism.
So if the management won’t address inexpensive garage door damage, or even be bothered to spray off the paint on the side of their building, how much dedication do you think they have when it comes to repairing your apartment deficiencies?
